Chippendale 'was at his best when working with Adam'

Famous English antique furniture maker Thomas Chippendale is said by one expert to have produced his finest work when under the guidance of Robert Adam.
David Nickerson, author of English Furniture, says Chippendale was just one designer to have benefited from Adam's expertise.
Others included the great Samuel Norman, William France and his partner Beckwith, as well as John Linnell, described by the writer as "a draughtsman of considerable merit".
Detailing Chippendale's time at Harewood House - the location for a project that saw Adam design the interior of a stately home - Mr Nickerson states: "The standard of craftsmanship is probably higher than anything Chippendale had previously attained. The marquetry furniture is magnificent."
He adds there is a particularly fine pair of china cabinets with "great beauty" that can be attributed to the furniture maker.
London antiques dealer Mallett stocks a wide range of items with Chippendale influence, including a George III Rococo oval mirror dating back to 1765.
