A Viennese post-war ‘Starburst’ chandelier decorated with a profusion of white patinated and brass rods terminating in faceted elements and stylised flower heads.Designed by Emil Stejnar, manufactured by Rupert Nikoll.The ‘Starburst’ chandelier was specifically designed in 1955 by Austrian architect, Emil Stejnar, as part of his interior re-design of the Vienna coffee house on Graben, Ohne Pause Espresso. Also described as a ‘Sputnik’, ‘Snowball’ or ‘Pyra’ chandelier, Stejnar’s distinctive shape is a dynamic re-interpretation of the traditional café globe popular across Europe during the mid 20th century. The chandelier was manufactured by the leading Austrian Nikoll Lighting Company who, in 1964 won an award at the International Forum Design Hannover for outstanding industrial design.Literature:Die Presse, (full page news feature), 17th April, 1955.
