January at Mallett New York: English Furniture from American Private Collections

Mallett is pleased to present an exhibition of English Furniture, Clocks and Decorations from American Private Collections in their New York gallery from 21st January to 6th February.  This curated group of objects features pieces by some of the leading cabinet and clock-makers of the 18th century including a magnificent rococo marquetry commode attributed to John Mayhew and William Ince, a pair of giltwood mirror-girandoles attributed to William France and John Bradburn for Sir Lawrence Dundas, a stunning walnut library armchair attributed to Giles Grendey, a pair of giltwood pier tables in the manner of Thomas Chippendale made for  the 10th Earl of Pembroke for Pembroke House and a rare longcase timepiece by Thomas Mudge and William Dutton.

Mallett is also pleased to host Martyn Gregory, who will be exhibiting China Trade Paintings and artwork in our 3rd floor gallery space from 21st January to 31st January.

Iconic Jewels & Treasures

Mallett are pleased to be hosting Dreweatts’ Iconic Jewels & Treasures auction at Ely House on Thursday 3rd December. The auction of fine jewellery, silver, watches and objects of vertu will include an important private collection of boxes and watches. A selection of the finest highlights will complete an international touring exhibition prior to the auction, see below for dates and locations.

Clare Potter: Botanical Ceramics at Mallett London

Following Clare Potter’s sell-out exhibition in New York, Mallett are proud to announce her first solo UK exhibition of ‘Botanical Ceramics’ at Ely House from Thursday 12th to Friday 27th November 2015.


The exhibition will showcase 35 new, unique works of art inspired by nature and the great porcelain tradition of the 18th century. Clare Potter’s contemporary creations are delicate and detailed arrangements that capture both the beauty and imperfections of nature, combining the finest craftsmanship with a lifetime of observation.

DESIGN HOUSE Opening Soon at Ely House

Monday 21st September will see the opening of our new selling exhibition for London Design Festival, entitled DESIGN HOUSE, championing three contemporary design brands creating heirloom pieces of the future.

Mallett Launches DESIGN HOUSE for London Design Festival

Mallett are proud to be returning to London Design Festival with a new installation entitled DESIGN HOUSE, a unique collaboration with leading International design brands at Ely House from Monday 21st September to Saturday 26th September 2015. 

The project, led by our Head of Contemporary Design, Eleonore Halluitte Andrews, will see three international brands, TANE from Mexico, Pomellato from Milan and Calico Wallpaper from New York, take over Ely House for one week to launch their new collections, and host a programme of events and talks, all championing the fusion of 18th century techniques with 21st century design.

Lino Tagliapietra Opens at Ely House

The first UK selling exhibition of masterpieces in glass by the revered Lino Tagliapietra is now open at Mallett Ely House.

The exhibition features new works by the artist, showcased at Ely House until 4th July 2015. Tagliapietra is the most ambitious and influential glassmaker of his generation. He is now the beloved patriarch of all glass artists, with the popular Dale Chihuly crowning him “the greatest glassblower there ever was”.

Spring Fine Jewellery, Watches and Pens: Auction Highlights

Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions will be bringing their Spring Fine Jewellery, Watches and Pens Auctions to Ely House on the 16th and 17th March. The Fine Jewellery department have exhibited in London for a number of years to a loyal clientele.

Vintage NASA Photographs at Ely House

Our current selection of highlights from forthcoming sales at Dreweatts and Bloomsbury Auctions is part of 'From the Earth to the Moon: Vintage NASA Photographs', taking place on 26 February 2015.


In this sale, one of the stars of the collection is the first ever photo of Earth from space, taken on a camera mounted on a rocket in 1946 that was blasted 65 miles above the atmosphere, and the only clear photograph taken of Neil Armstrong's first steps on the moon. View of highlights now at Ely House, until Thursday 19th February, when viewing will move to Maddox Street. London will be closed on Christmas eve and New York will be open for a half day only.

Tord Boontje at Sothebys

Mallett's 'Fig Leaf' wardrobe will take centre stage as part of an unprecedented exhibition of works by the internationally acclaimed designer Tord Boontje at Sotheby's in January. Curated by Janice Blackburn, Britain’s most influential curator and promoter in the field of contemporary arts and crafts, Originals will showcase Tord Boontje’s most celebrated pieces of furniture, lighting, jewellery and textiles, alongside sculptures and drawings by Emma Woffenden.

Fig Leaf was created by Meta, a company of Mallett, combining 18th century knowledge with a 21st century aesthetic. This incredible piece by Tord Boontje was exhibited in the 2009 Telling Tales exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Mallett Inc were delighted to host the launch of 'Pam Beach People' on Monday evening, the new publication Hilary Geary Ross and featuring photographs by Harry Benson.

Auction Highlights at Ely House

We are pleased to begin to present a rotating selection of highlights both on our website and at Ely House from forthcoming auctions at Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions, our sister company under The Fine Art Auction Group.

Maison Parisienne Curates Cabinet of Curiosities at Mallett

Maison Parisienne are at Ely House this week showcasing French Craftsmanship.The two hundred objects presented at Ely House are united by the theme of “Alchemic Ceremony” and are a selection of exceptional works, all one of a kind or limited edition, by French artists and craftsmen. Textile and wooden sculptures, ceramics, precious porcelain, copper and glassware, in addition to surprising screens and unusual furniture create an extraordinary curiosity cabinet in the 18th century Ely House.

Bocci Installation at Mallett - Extended

We are very pleased to be extending the duration of the Bocci installation at Mallett. The '38' series on the exterior of the building, and chandelier in the Red Room will remain at Ely House until the end of October. The monumental '57' will be in the stairwell at Ely House until the end of the year.

London Design Festival and The Global Design Forum


To mark the London Design Festival and Mallett's collaboration with Bocci we will be holding two talks at Ely House.


Tuesday 16th September, at 12pm: The Global Design Forum "Collecting Design: The Evolution of Collector and Maker”. Chair: Gareth Williams, curator, writer and lecturer. Speakers: Rory Hyde, Curator of Contemporary Architecture and Urbanism at V&A; Eleonore Halluitte-Andrews, Mallett;Tord Boontje, designer. Tickets can be purchased here.

Wednesday 17th September, at 6.30pm: Bocci and Mallett on the subject of “Fantasy Furniture”. Please email us if you would like to attend.

Mallett's pair of Malachite tables, presented as a gift from Tsar Alexander I and reunited at Masterpiece after 150 years, have been named as a Selected Highlight of the fair by the committee.

Ben Panting: Private View for the British Sporting Art Trust

We were very pleased to welcome the British Sporting Art Trust for an exclusive private viewing of Ben Panting's exhibition of bronzes on its opening. Turning the most heads of the night was the model used for Ben's sculpture 'No Nonsense', pictured alongside her bronze below.

Photographer Harry Benson and Mallett

During his career, Harry Benson, the world's most successful and prolific photojournalist and portrait photographer, has been called upon to photograph every American president from Dwight D Eisenhower to Barack Obama;he has marched with and photographed Martin Luther King Jr. in the period of the Civil Rights Movement; he was present at the Watts Riots in Los Angeles, and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans; he photographed the Berlin Wall as it was built, and he photographed it being torn down. He has undertaken assignments in conflict zones including Ireland, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kuwait, Israel and the West Bank.

Architectural Digest

A pair of hall chairs bought from Mallett are shown in their new surroundings in this month's Architectural Digest. The article features the home of an art-colllecting Houston couple, designed by architect Allan Greenberg, with interiors by Elissa Cullman.

Kenwood House Reopens

Kenwood House has reopened after its 10-month closure in order for English Heritage to complete its ‘Caring for Kenwood’ restoration.

The house, which originally dates from the early 17th century, was bought in 1754 by William Murray, the First Earl of Mansfield, who between 1764 and 1779 commissioned Robert Adam to remodel it when he built the library and the porch at the entrance.

In the Robert Adam Library is a needlework carpet supplied by Mallett, shown in situ here.
